The struggle

A happy culture from a place away
Brought by force, and had to stay
Separated from their loved ones
And put to work, for people they knew none of.

Hundreds of years until it stopped
Emancipation Proclamation, Post Civil War
Treated terrible, as if they should still be bought.

Fought for rights, voting
Gained a little, Jim Crow
Violently and non-violent, Black Panthers
Some people were still wedged in the middle.

With the death of a great leader, Martin Luther King Jr. & Malcolm X
More people in the world were able to see clearer.
Even that, it still wasn't ok
Still seeing the Confederate Ghosts', KKK.

Gained more, as time flies by
Every day is a mission
And every day we try.

Accomplishments with no credit
Garret Morgan, traffic light and Madam CJ Walker, flat iron.
Ropes around the neck, they still did it.

As we try to teach
The youth of our struggle,
The schools of the in the present day
Provide only a brief rebuttal.
