Should schoolsStandards be raised?

Schools today offer a lot of classes. From regular to AP, and from autoshop to photography. There is a wide range of classes your child can be interested in. Most children don't take advantage of all the classes that schools have to offer. It is not that the students are not learning enough from the school, because the school has a wide range of classes to offer. The students are just not taking advantage of it. They are limiting themselves to not get the highest of knowledge possible. Schools should not have higher standards because it is not their fault.
Not all students, but the average student at a public high school doesn't want to take the more difficult classes. They want to take the easier classes and the classes that will get them out of high school and into college easy. If they can do enough just to get by, then that is what they are going to do. Not all students are like this though. Some want to better their learning because they want it to pay off in the future. Another reason may be just so they can get a new experience in their life. Not all students are the same.If everyone wanted thought the same and felt they had to do something, then where would the world be today. Most of the greatest things were invented by people that weren't like everyone else. Bill Gates did not finish his education, and he is one of the richest men in the world.
With more and more people wanting to go to college, schools don't even have to raise their standards because the students are starting to take the more difficult classes becasue they see that it looks better when a college sees that. It looks better being at the top of your class with the highest grade point average in the school. Some students are raising the bar by themselves because of all the competition to get into the best colleges and universities in the United States. The students are learning as much as they want to while they are in high school. Whether they take full advantage of it or just do enough to get by, is totally up to the individual student.
The standards that schools have not, should not be raised. Schools offer rigorous courses, and a wide variety of them. It is up to the students to take those courses and not just get by. Actually do the best they can, and learn as much as possible while in that class everytime they are in it. Not everyone wants to take these higher classes and do all that work. Some students cannot handle all of that and are learing a lot now. Why force more on them? Why set standards even higher, and some students can barely handel it now? That would do no justice to the student. It would not do any justice to the school either because students would start failing more, giving the school a bad name. Don't raise the standards, just give schools more money to make their programs and classes even better than they are so more people will want to take the classes.
